The Kit

This is an entirely splash and go sharpening kit from Naniwa's Pro line! These stones are all very hard, which tends to be more unforgiving, but cut faster, dish slower and will leave you with deadly edges with good technique. Paired with a Naniwa Stone Holder, a leather strop and an Atoma Diamond Plate, you've got everything you need to keep your kit in tip-top shape.

The Naniwa Pro #400 is one of our most used stones at the shop, and is a personal favorite of mine. This stone has a fantastic feedback, is slow wearing, and leaves a surprisingly good finish for how quickly it cuts, not to mention the bite that this stone leaves at the edge if you don't over refine it on your higher grits.

A lot of the same things can be said about this stone as the #400, the Naniwa Pro #1000 is slow wearing, hard, consistent and fast cutting. This was my personal choice that I finished most of my knives on when I was working professionally. Being a splash and go I could pop it down and touch my knives up in just a few minutes when I got the chance or before a big prep session.

The Naniwa Pro #5000 is a super hard finisher that will leave a paper towel shearing, face shaving, edge, and a near mirror finish on bevels (should you wish to spend the time to do so). This stone is a splash and go so its always ready for a quick touch up!

The Atoma Diamond plate #400 is our go to choice for a flattening tool. They cut fast, and will remain true forever as they're bound to an aluminum block. They can be used for repairs in a pinch, but do be advised that this will pull out the diamonds over time, and they will last considerably longer if used just for flattening.

The leather strop will be your final stop, and take your edge from sharp, to scary. It can also be used as a maintenance tool, and extend the life of your knife or tools edge. When the strop is no longer effective its time to transition to a ceramic honing rod, and when that stops being effective its time to hit the stones again!

The Naniwa stone holder is definitely a luxury. It brings you up from the table or sink bridge to allow hand clearance while sharpening and makes sure nothing slides around!
