Moritaka Hamono was founded in 1293 by master sword smith Kongohyoe Minamoto no Moritaka who was the head swordsmith for the Buddhist priests at Mt. Homan. 26 generations later master swordsmith Chuzaemon Moritaka decided to expand and apply the Moritaka family forging experience to Kitchen knives. Today Moritaka Hamono continues to produce some of the best kitchen cutlery you can buy. Each knife is forged with skills and knowledge that took over 700 years to develop and accumulate, through over 30 generations. We're very proud to have these in our shop.

Nakiri's are designed specifically for chopping vegetables. All tall thin blade gives the user lots of space for their knuckles when chopping, the blade can be flipped over and the flat spine used to scrape things together on the cutting board, finally, its large surface area is great for scooping things up and moving them where-ever needed.
